NEWS FROM THE ARC 2019 – OARSOME DREAM SETS SAIL FROM LAS PALMAS

Hello from the good ship Oarsome Dream!

We’re now 48 hours into the big adventure and settling down to the watch system and life at sea. A little sea sickness has been overcome and today we had lunch in the cockpit under the shade of the Bimini – it’s getting hot quickly on this southerly course we are doing!

We had an epic start on Sunday lunchtime and scorched off along the east side of Gran Canaria, enjoying the edge of the wind acceleration zone for quite a while especially when we over took our friends on Rocket Dog II. The winds have been a bit lighter since then but we are still making steady progress. We were really excited to find ourselves 5th in class come the first morning and 3rd at the time of writing. Long way to go though….We’ve seen lots of ARC boats around us, currently the big Oyster Albatross is a mile or so off our port quarter – so we are pleased to know that other teams are making the same navigation choices as us!

Excitement of the day was finally getting signal on Paul’s new sat phone. Thanks Kelly, epic message and the Galaxy was appreciated by all of us!

Fishing line is out, better go and get back on it! Or at least take the salmon out of the freezer…

Love to all the people following us on the tracker, thanks for the messages, keep em coming.

Richard, Prue, Paul and Stuart xx
