RYA Day Skipper Theory

The RYA Day Skipper Theory Course will introduce you to navigating using both a nautical chart and electronic chart plotter.

You will learn about coastal navigation, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, using tide-tables and creating a pilotage plan. You will also discuss safety equipment, correct distress procedures and the essential ‘rules of the road’.

You will learn how to plan ahead for a day sail – including passage planning and meteorology and becoming familiar with essential seamanship skills. On the successful completion of the course you will receive a valid certificate.

Format

Our courses run over 5 days in our dedicated classroom overlooking the river Hamble in Port Hamble Marina. Most courses run Saturday – Wednesday afternoon.

Learning in a group classroom environment is fun and offers a way to make new sailing friends as well as pick up anecdotal support information, and ask the instructor questions.

Alternatively consider our popular 9-day Combined RYA Day Skipper Theory & Practical, where the practical course follows straight on from the theory course, allowing you to put your newly learned skills straight into practice
