RYA Intermediate Powerboat

The RYA Intermediate Powerboat course builds on the boat handling skills learned at RYA Powerboat Level 2.

This 2 day course covers practical pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters, using a wide variety of navigational techniques. The RYA Intermediate Powerboat course also includes enhanced levels of theory and practical skills to help you prepare for longer passages and the extra planning this entails.

By the end of the course you will be capable of planning and executing short coastal passages by day.

Format

The course runs 9.30am – 5.30pm on both days of your chosen course dates from our base in Port Hamble Marina. There will be a minimum of 2 students + instructor and a maximum of 3 students, to ensure you have plenty of time in the driving seat. The certificate is based on continual assessment, there are no exams.

Pre-requisites

Powerboat handling to the standard of RYA Powerboat Level 2 (with Coastal endorsement).

Knowledge to level of RYA Day Skipper Theory is expected. It is also strongly recommended that candidates hold an RYA First Aid certificate and VHF/SRC certificate.

Minimum Age 16

You should not undertake this course if you are pregnant and we recommend you consult a doctor before booking if you suffer from back problems.

Our courses take place on our new Humber 7m RIB.

What's included?

Tuition from RYA qualified instructor onboard our RIB, all mooring fees, loan of waterproof jacket and trousers, fuel and an Intermediate Powerboat Course Completion Certificate. Lifejackets will be provided to wear throughout. Please note lunch isn't included, please bring a packed lunch.
