RYA Advanced Powerboat

The RYA Advanced Powerboat course is for leisure and professional boaters wanting to undertake more adventurous trips by day and night.

Over the 2 days, you will learn more about navigating at planning speed, techniques for skippering a powerboat in more challenging conditions, meteorology, passage making as skipper and preparation for sea, boat handling, use of engines, emergency situations and night cruising.

Format

The course starts at 9.30am from our sea school in Port Hamble Marina and will finish on day 2 at 5.30pm. A night-time passage will be included as part of the course, so Saturday evening finishing times will vary depending on daylight hours.

The course runs with a minimum of 2 students + instructor and a maximum of 3 students to ensure you have plenty of time in the driving seat. The course is based on continual assessment, there are no exams.

Pre-requisites

Practical skills to the standard of RYA Intermediate Powerboat and knowledge to level of RYA Yachtmaster/Coastal Theory . It is also strongly recommended that candidates hold an RYA First Aid certificate and an RYA VHF Marine Radio certificate.

Minimum Age 17.

You should not undertake this course if you are pregnant and we recommend you consult a doctor before booking if you suffer from back problems.

What's included?

Tuition from RYA qualified instructor on board a 7m RIB, all mooring fees, loan of waterproof jacket and trousers, fuel and an Advanced Powerboat Course Completion Certificate. Lifejackets will be provided to wear throughout. Please note lunch isn't included, please bring a packed lunch.
